Apple iPhone: The Reality

June 29th, the release date of iPhone may go down in history as the day of the mobile revolution. But, is iPhone really the mother of all cellular devices or just another hyped up device which fails to live up to the expectations set by its pre-launch publicity? To think, a sleek phone with 3.5″ multi touch display, 4GB memory, built-in iPod, Wi-Fi and many more cool features make you believe that this phone is God’s gift to mankind (only those with enough money!!!), but the publicity cleverly hides the non competent areas of the phone which stops Apple iPhonethe iPhone short of becoming THE phone to have and own.

3G, which has become a benchmark to compare phones nowadays is missing from the iPhone. Bluetooth is present, but no A2DP support, so you would need your wired headphones to enjoy that pulsating music from the iPhone. The keyboard cannot be used in landscape mode. Also, your favourite songs cannot be set as ringtones-a Apple iPhonefeature or a bug? You figure out. Among other things, there is no video recording, voice dialing, MMS or GPS. Memory cannot be expanded by any external card, although 4GB is already provided. Realistically speaking, for a phone with such music and video capabilities, memory expansion should have been an important addition.

What it does have just blows your top away. The battery life is great, which lets you listen to music/watch videos for long hours without having to reach for the nearest plug point. It has Wi-Fi that makes browsing the Internet on its huge 3.5″ display a pleasure. The mind boggling UI with multi touch capabilities doesn’t even need to be mentioned. Everyone knows about that. If you don’t, check out videos of iPhone in YouTube.

Based on your preferences of the stuff you want in a mobile, you might want to go for Apple iPhone or not. If you want a really cool looking phone with a wicked UI and awesome music capabilities, this phone is for you. If you are very particular about the things not present in this phone, sadly, you would have to give this gorgeous phone a miss. All said and done, this is a great phone to have and flaunt. Personally, I am dying for the phone to arrive in my country (2008 – long wait, unfortunately)

With all the cool features this phone has, it still needs to be seen how it performs in the basic area – calls.
